Recap: May 2013

I drew this in Paint.

Hey guys, I've decided to start doing a recap post at the beginning of each month so that new readers (I'm very hopeful) will see what they've missed and go back and read about topics they're interested in.

Here's what I did in May:

I started writing this blog. Personal finance is important to me for many reasons, and I really want to explain to people what it is, and how learning about it can help their lives.

For some reason, I decided to start by writing a post about retirement funds. I'm going to elaborate on that topic in the months to come and hopefully convince you guys that it's never too early to start thinking about retirement. That post is currently my most popular post so far, and I've gotten a lot of additional questions about it, for example, here

I covered a lot of basic stuff like online banksinvesting, the difference between debit and credit, insurance that keeps your money safe, and what credit reports are. I also opened a credit card recently so I talked about how I went about choosing one.

Once my blog started getting more views, I started getting comments and questions so I began featuring some informative messages I receive, in the Messages From Readers column. In May, I featured a success story and feedback from my economics professor about my blog.

Another column my blog has is called Mishaps in Money, where I talk about mistakes I've made when it comes to handling my money. One time, I got fined by my bank for not reading documentation carefully enough. OH NO.

So thank you all for reading and helping me get this project of mine started. Let me know if you ever have any questions or comments!
